Colinton is a hamlet that is located approximately 120 kilometers north of Edmonton. Colinton’s history dates back to the early 20th century when it was originally known as Kinnoull. The hamlet was renamed Colinton in honor of Colinton, Scotland, the birthplace of James Maurice Milne, who owned the land on which the railway station was built. The railway played a crucial role in the development of Colinton, serving as a vital link for the transportation of goods and people.

Today, Colinton is a tight-knit community with a population of around 169 residents. The hamlet consists of two designated places, Colinton and McNabb’s, along with additional lands to the south. Despite its small size, Colinton boasts a range of amenities, including the Colinton Hotel, which is a popular gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. The hotel hosts events such as steak nights during the summer, offering a taste of local cuisine on its sunny patio.

Colinton serves as a local center for the surrounding rural farmers and ranchers, contributing to the economic vitality of the region. The hamlet’s location on Highway 663 makes it a convenient stop for travelers, and its proximity to Athabasca provides residents with access to additional services and employment opportunities.. The community’s strong sense of camaraderie and support for local businesses helps to sustain its economy and ensure a high quality of life for its residents.
