Roads to Rose Lynn

A brief history of these small communities:

• Rose Lynn: A hamlet in Special Area No. 2, Rose Lynn has roots in early settlement and farming. A local history book, details the development of the area.
• Halladay: While there isn’t much recorded about Halladay as a community, the name is associated with early windmill technology and a Canadian politician, Howard Hadden Halladay, who served as mayor of Hanna, Alberta.
• Sheerness: Named after a coastal town in England, Sheerness was established in 1909 and has historical ties to early settlers and agriculture.
• Stanmore: Once a larger settlement with a school, grain elevators, and a post office (1913–1970), Stanmore saw economic growth due to natural gas discoveries in the 1950s.
• Scotfield: A hamlet in Special Area No. 2, Scotfield developed as an agricultural community and was historically significant for its cemetery, established in 1915.
• Richdale: Originally incorporated as a village in 1916, Richdale was dissolved in 1931. It was a small but notable settlement along Highway 9.
• Berry Creek Areas: This region was part of the Special Areas created in 1938 due to hardships from the Great Depression. It was originally designated as Berry Creek-Sullivan Lake Special Area before being renamed Special Area No. 2 in 1959.
