Rocky View County, formerly known as the Municipal District of Rocky View No. 44, has a rich history rooted in Alberta’s rural development. Established on January 1, 1955, it was originally called the Municipal District of Calgary No. 44 before being renamed in 1956 following a contest won by Leslie Burwash of Balzac. The name “Rocky View” was chosen due to the area’s stunning views of the Rocky Mountains.

The county encompasses several vibrant communities, including Airdrie, Balzac, Beiseker, Bottrel, Bragg Creek, Chataqua, Chestermere, Cochrane, Conrich, and Crossfield. Each of these communities has contributed to the county’s growth, from Airdrie’s rapid urban expansion to Bragg Creek’s scenic beauty and Chestermere’s transformation into a thriving lakeside city.

Over the decades, Rocky View County has evolved significantly, adapting to changes in governance and infrastructure. In 2009, it officially transitioned from a municipal district to a county, reflecting its diverse and growing population. Today, it remains one of Alberta’s most populous rural municipalities, balancing agricultural heritage with modern development.
