The new Prairie Sky Cemetery, situated to the east of Ralph Klein Park off 100 St. S.E. and 130 Ave. S.E (Street Address: 12800 110 St. SE.) is the first new cemetery built by The City of Calgary since Queen’s Park Cemetery opened in 1940. Phase one of Prairie Sky opened in summer 2021 and is envisioned to be a contemporary public space that offers Calgarians a peaceful place to lay their loved ones to rest, pay their respects and connect with nature. The natural setting and rolling fields of the cemetery provide beautiful views of the mountains to the west. The cemetery’s geographical footprint is 65.3 hectares (a little over 160 acres). Grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset.
Prairie Sky features a number of new in-ground and cremation plots, Columbaria for cremated remains, and Calgary’s first option for green burials. The cemetery is a member of the Green Burial Society of Canada. Green burials are designed to reduce environmental impact and ensure a legacy of protecting the land where those who passed are laid to rest.
