History of Alhambra, Arbutus, Beaver Flat, Bingley, Horseguard, Oras, Sleepy Valley, Taimi
Alhambra is a hamlet within Clearwater County. It is located close to the David Thompson Highway, east of Rocky Mountain House. The hamlet was first settled in 1906, and the local post office was initially named Horseguards, after the nearby Horseguards Creek. However, with the arrival of the railroad in 1914, the hamlet was renamed Alhambra. The name was inspired by Alhambra in Grenada, Spain, in an attempt to share some of the Spanish city’s glory.
Alhambra is home to the Alhambra/Ahlstrom Aerodrome, which is located adjacent to the hamlet.
