Many settlers came North from the USA to establish homesteads in this area. They brought may skills and talents along with a desire to continue to practice their religion through the Church of the Brethren. They were a pacifist group who believed in adult baptism through immersion. The church was a central meeting point for various founding members of the congregation. Over the years, two churches were built by the congregation with the Church of the Brethren being the final effort, completed in 1919. As it became increasingly difficult to obtain Brethren ministers, this church joined the United Church of Canada in 1969. In 2011, the church was designated a Provincial Heritage Resource.
