St. Mary's Tide Lake Cemetery (Cypress County)

The St. Mary’s Tide Lake Cemetery was dedicated in 1912.

The cemetery is located on a vast piece of property on the NW 07-19-09-W4 near the junction of Range Road 100 and Township Road 192. The property for this cemetery was generously donated by Mr. and Mrs. Lutys and another unidentified person. The cemetery is situated across the road on the west line of NE 12-19-10-W4. A graveled road leads into it, and a good barbed wire fence surrounds the plot.

The cemetery is marked by an attractive iron gate, and all graves are marked with metal crosses. The vegetation is well-maintained, contributing to the serene and respectful atmosphere. Interestingly, there is only one stone marker in the entire plot.

In 1986, the cemetery was fenced, and a massive field stone monument was erected. The brass plaque on the monument bears an inscription that pays tribute to the early pioneers.

The church associated with the cemetery was also extensively renovated in 1986. A retired priest, Father Kwerski, travels from Oyen, Alberta, whenever the congregation wants to hold mass. This church is still in use today

One unique grave holds the remains of an unknown cowboy who perished in 1912. At that time, he was interred just west of Tide Lake Cemetery as his religious denomination was not known. His grave, now included in this plot, adds a touch of mystery to the cemetery.
