Chancellor Cemetery is home to just one person. The cemetery was created in memory of Mytro Borys. Mytro was a young Ukrainian immigrant hired by Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) to help construct the Bassano-Irricana branch line. He was killed on the job in June 1913 during construction of the CPR. Mytro is buried next to the Canadian Pacific Railway, just outside the community of Chancellor, Alberta at mile 28 of the Irricana Subdivision. In 1980 under the Prairie Branch Line Rehabilitation Program, the grave site was cleaned up and a new cross painted with silver paint was installed to replace the original 7×7 cross marker. The original cross was left leaning against the fence. More information about the grave can be found in Greg McDonnel’s book, “Canadian Pacific: Stand Fast Craigellachie”.
