North-east of Lethbridge AB in the Municipal District of Taber lies the Wiest Cemetery. The hamlet of Enchant is close by; one wonders if early settlers in the area were “enchanted” by their new surroundings. There are currently only 6 known burials at the Wiest Cemetery. One is William Baum Wiest who homesteaded near his son Worth’s place in 1907. He did the chores while his son did the farming. In 1918 at the age of 64 he left to return to his home state of Pennsylvania, USA but was killed in a train accident near Shelby, Montana. His remains were brought back to Alberta for burial in the Wiest Cemetery, the land for which had been given to the area by Richard Wiest.
